a boring sat...

ok... so 2dae is sat... urm... first, i went for course briefing with my mom... it was quite repititive actually... most of the info can be found on the yellow booklet... but, still, i got some new info... and i think i may go for the raffles academy and specialise in either maths or phy... but, if that is the case, i will have to get a GPA of above 4.0 and that may mean dropping 3rd lang... hahaha... actually, i do plan to drop third lang by the end of this year, most likely b4 the final exam... den, i can relieve my mind of japanese... it's been clogging up my mind for the past 2 years... haha... so, i think it will still be 3 sciences + history, with RA subject being maths or physics... there are a few ppl that i noe taking that subject combination, namely gilbert n mark... history is actually not really popular in RI with onli 2/15 classes in sec 3 this year taking history... but still, i think it's better than geog cuz geog is onli about memorising notes and forgetting them after the test... in history, we learn skills like how to write a "to what extent" qn.. or test for reliability etc... these are really skills that i think will come in handy in time to come...

Ok... next up was the choosing of specs... ay... that was sad story man... i didnt noe how to choose a gd pair of specs... so wat did i do? i chose a white pair... i look DUMB!!! white specs, white shirt, white pants, white socks, white shoes... just like those ppl who r going for funerals... AHHH!!!!... boo hoo... den, i went to cut my hair... ay.. yet another sad story... my hair is SO SHORT... ahhh... i want my hair back... okok... no use moaning about it now...haha...

Next was Weiqi... i learnt some new tactics 2dae and it was the importance of having a main target... and that u must know how to bao liu bian hua so that u can choose the best bian hua that is possible at a later stage... however, the art of bao liu bian hua is not easy to master as if u dont move it, other ppl may move it... u have to noe when is the best time to move it so that u can achieve the best possible bian hua... den Yang toked about the com Weiqi and com Chinese chess... now, computers can beat the pro-est ppl in Chinese Chess... however, computers cant even beat a person in weiqi even if the person rang 9 seeds... that's like... wow... Weiqi as u can see is a kind of chess which has so many diff bian hua that a com cant calculate a move's value... there is no ultimate goal in weiqi... in chinese chess, u just have to jiang jun... in eng chess, u just have ti checkmate... in weiqi, there are so many ways of winning... eating seeds, expanding, attacking, killing, invading... all of them may help u win... like 2dae, when zhang xiang replayed his match, there was one move where he had to duan kai the two pieces... there is not much value in that move... there is no mu4 shu4 or anything, it will onli help it become hou4... but, how do u measure hou4?? there is no way of measuring... thus, a computer can never beat a human in weiqi cuz it's the feeling... a human would have thot of that duan move... but not a computer... the computer can onli mearsure the amount of land it gains from that move... but, sometimes, you get more land, you will still lose out in the end because you are too bao2 and other ppl can invade or kill easily... it was quite interesting listening to his story... yup... so next up was the match... i played against this HCI guy... it was quite a close match until i made 1 calculation mistake and lost the match immediately... ay... so sad... i actually had quite a g chance of winning... boo hoo... cries... haha... well, must train my ji suan liao... my ji suan is too lousy... i could have killed that piece so easily lah.. ay... so sad... nvm...

Den, jiang... jiang was quite hard to understand cuz i didnt really agree with how the teacher went about to write the zuo wen about jian kang yu cai fu... i thot it was to compare which one is more important which meant comparing someone who has cai fu and no jian kang and one who has jian kang and no cai fu... but the teacher went about comparing a person with cai fu and jian kang and one with onli cai fu and no jian kang... i think it's wrong because den u r comparing whether jian kang is important which is an obvious yes but it's not answering the question!!! at least i think so... hahaha... ok... nvm... well, there was one part of the lesson which went like this...

teacher: tong xue men, ying gai zen me yang zuo jie wei ne?
yun hui: copy from start...
me: paste at bottom...

And during lesson, gilbert was his usual self... reading as if he were... nvm... haha... it was weird lah... dunno how to describe... hahahahaha... ay...okok.. gtg liaoz... BYE

hey patrick...

few things:

1. I disagree about computers not being able to predict weiqi...obviously I don't know much about weiqi...but whatever "feeling" that you're refering to...there have to be some kind of quantitative model or algorithm that can be implemented on a computer to imitate that thought progress...obviously it's an extremly complicated algorithm..but i have no doubt that with elegant programming, someday a computer can beat a top weiqi player..much like how IBM's "Deep Blue" defeated a world chess champion...

2. so i guess u'r really giving up Japanese then...I think it's a pity..but i guess a necessary sacrifice considering ur workload...thou i hope u'd eventually find a chance to pick it up again in the future (like wat i'm doin now)

3. and i agree with ur thoughts about how ur teacher analyze the essay...why don u just raise the question to your teacher and see how she/he responds...maybe she/he has gd reasons??
