homework.

ok so begins the mugging period.

here's the plan.

today: finish ERP, finish philo homework, finish integration revision
mon: do integration supplementary wkst
tue: study history test
wed: revise history and math
thur: revise physics electricity + graph drawing
fri: RIGE rehearsal + Emcee rehearsal

yeah...

and then, from week 3 on, it would be mugging for ccts liao... starting with...

week 6:
mon: math
tue: eng

week 8:
tue: chem
thu: history

week 9:
mon: phy
thu: bio

week 10:
tue: Chi
wed: Math

i'm quite happy with the cct schedule for this term. quite a lot of time to study. (: unless some random project pops up again (which i believe will be the case) esp. english portfolio.

sigh. i'm reading some book called 挥着翅膀的女孩 now. very kiddish but very nice! (:

mm that's all bah. happy mugging.

CIP++

hmm. so a few things has happened these few days.

so wed was NSW writing. lol became quite hilarious cuz it was supposed to start at 4 punctually but in the end we had to wait outside till around 5. so 4B people were playing dumb hand games like errrr thumbs, chopsticks and heart attack. >< lol. but anyway, i thought it went ok bah. im just scared about my spelling cuz i used a few chim words this time round and im not quite sure about the spelling. and of course punctuation cuz i used speech this time round as well. but who cares luh...

den thurs was the restarting of daqiao mentoring again. so once again it was me and guowei but this time angus went along! lol. HMM... so it became errr angus was the bad guy who went around scolding the people. quite effective i must say. haha. both guowei and me cant scold people. so i managed to get jiahao to do some math! big achievement! (: yay. den soccer. haha. DAMN MALU. lol. i got ole-d by some primary school kid lol. but quite obvious we were giving them chance bah. haha. but quite fun. hmmm...

ok so friday was interview day. this time, ying xiang, kenneth and me went cuz shu jian... AHEM... had to do the video. so we went off to NUS to do the interview. i was interviewing once again and kenneth was filming. i think im improving! (: im starting to be able to think of qns on the spot. of course, the professor was really nice and fatherly like so it helped us a lot as well. lasted around 30 mins... haha den after that, we went off to dover where we got 1 random interview at singapore poly before we proceeded to NJC. went there cuz there were FOUR schools there and that day was a good day for interviews cuz all of them had school and we didn't! LOL... the good thing about staff training. so we got to interview errr nanyang, hci, njc people and other random people who walked past. not bad i would say. but my 脸皮 very 厚 already. haha go ask so many stupid questions and have so many stupid requests. (kenneth and ying xiang should know). I 撞墙 lots of times sia... lol but quite fun luh. interviewing is quite fun except when you get rejected. (:

den today was CIP @ kolam aryer. must say i didn't do much. we just went to one household and did some detailed analysis. happens that they are quite nice so that helped us a lot. but anyway, we went into his house to do some checks and suddenly a bed bug crawled out of the bed. it was gigantic! ok i'm exaggerating but yeah i was shocked but couldn't have too much reaction cuz i was still interviewing the guy. but i must say their lives must be really hard... their flush doesn't work, their electricity credits only left around $1... it's quite touching when we ask a lot of stuff like whether they need financial assistance, they would say nope cuz they have odd jobs... but other than that, not much learnt bah. i would want to go for refurbishment if i have the time to...

after that, went to eat, did a bit of work before going for weiqi.

cool. more people joint the class, and pro people too! (: haha. but anyway, today i played against some really young girl. i think she's only P3, P4? haha. very cute. i play very slow so i think she was a bit bored so she kept rubbing her eyes and stretching and yawning. lol. ok. but anyway, she was quite pro! it was quite an even match until i got to kill one large piece and she lost by around 14 seeds in the end i think. not bad considering she's still so young!

then jiang was funny as usual. with wen rui owning the rest. >< haha. OH AND SHU KIAT! haha!!!! okok. nvm so many jokes during class seh. mmhmm. learnt quite a bit too. yeah! (:

ok think that's all bah. it's time to sleep (again).

hm.

heyheys! (:

mm ok. so it's holiday tomorrow!

yeah. anyway, it's interviews tomorrow so not much of a holiday bah. i really need to start working on my math and make sure i catch up. i'm having good progress though. (:

there are lots of stuff that i still need to complete, like that of studying history.

on another note, DMPs are coming. there are a few that i would like to take! (:
1. some chem one in the sept hols (to save me time during DMP) (probably the green chem one or the one on medicine i think...)
2. probably the beatboxing course cuz i want to learn that.
3. Pop Song Composing course. I really want to learn how to compose properly and i think professionals teaching would help a lot.
4. maybe some math one and a physics one. that should make up my hours.

oh. i found out about this group called by2. found them out by accident while surfing for songs. weren't quite impressed by their singing but their dancing is rather good. at first, i thought they were one of the many taiwan singers again but i soon found out that they were actually Singaporeans! haha. somehow, that made them better. maybe cuz fellow Singaporeans. hmm. not bad bah. some people worry for them though cuz they are not going to get their 'O's. lol. to me that's not really a problem. of course having an 'O' cert is much safer. but there isn't many who can be proud of becoming famous at a tender age of 16. if they were to take up the path of the normal 'O's, they would probably be a nobody now still. better to risk it then to regret in the future. ok i seem to be writing some bao zhang bao dao. STOP!

got this from their blog. you can find out more about them online and on youtube. they seem to be quite 红 already.

mm. recently, i've been asked a lot about what i want to do next time. to be honest, i'm really not sure. i know i don't want to do something that is boring that involves repeating step after step. somehow, i want something creative. i've been thinking about being an algorithmist (is that the right word?) after SIMC. of course, being an architect after my brother and owning him. (: and then, the usual pathway of being an engineer. and of course, my father has always asked me to do something regarding water lol. at first it sounded quite dumb to me but i guess it's true. the recent increase in food prices, lack of water show that these problems are going to be the major problems that our generation would face.

nevertheless, i know that besides my profession, i want to pick up a lot of stuff. somehow, like what Mr. Mac says, i feel that doing something new is always good.

"when was the last time you did something for the first time"

i always ask myself that. that has been the motto for me for the last 2 years. it's probably my source of courage to try out new stuff, stuff that i would not even have thought of venturing into before that. probably that's why my years before that were all spent at home mugging (not that mugging is bad.)

to me, when i grow up, besides the main profession that i would have, i would love to have lots of hobbies and enjoy life!

there are a lot of hobbies that i would love to have when i grow up.

1. Blogging. I don't really know how i got addicted to blogging. but i find it a great way to express my thoughts. haha. im proud that i have not offended many through my blog posts which has been a major concert with blogs. hope it continues that way! (:
2. Music. i'm glad i've taken up percussion and piano. they form the foundation of my music. i'm still not sure what CCA i want to join in RJC. but on thing is for sure, i want to learn much more! i've always wanted to learn GUITAR, DANCING, WIND INSTRUMENT, STRING INSTRUMENT and much more. i know it sounds mad but i think i can do it. i'm still wondering whether i should continue with perc in jc or whether i should try out some other instrument. i know there's much more for me to learn in perc, with the DRUM SET as the most important one. for guitar, i'm not sure. both my brothers are very good at it but somehow i don't know how to start prac-ing. i think i need a teacher lol. dancing is another thing. after looking at people break dancing and erm my friends dancing, i'm starting to think it's rather cool. haha. i really want to learn. wonder whether i can enrol into some class but that would be some time in the future. if i can really achieve all these, then i can really be proud! not everyone can play the piano, guitar, a wind instrument and a string instrument. haha. i wanna take up either violin or cello. The cello sounds really nice! (: hahaha. later scally i take up cello in rjco. >< that would be funny lol. as for wind instrument, i've been thinking of some band wind instrument but i don't mind dizi either. oh, and of course i wanna learn singing. and composing. in the future, i would love to have a hobby of playing great music!
3. Weiqi. somehow, i never get bored of this game. i've been playing it for around 8 years or more but i still love it. the endless possibilities are just so interesting. (: i'd love to continue playing it even after i grow up.
4. photography. i've always thought that photography is simple, especially with the new technology. anti-shake mah, still got what technique? but that's not true. after viewing nigel fong's pics on his com, i see that photography is actually very powerful. i've been bringing a camera around with me for 1 year already, everywhere i go and i'm very proud of my collection of photos. they aren't really good but they are very good memories for me. all the days in IBN, taiwan, changchun... they all mean something special to me. i really want to learn photography. not necessarily be pro at it, but i guess through practice and some lessons, it should come along fine.

this is starting to sound like a long piece of crap haha. hope you weren't bored to death.

mm. there are a lot more opportunities out there and i really hope to grab them as they come along. rige concert, though small, is still something i value and then there will be shanghai trip. i hope that opportunities like these keep coming and that i grab hold of them fast enough.

that's all. (: happy interviews tomorrow. (:

oh no. school has reopened.

haix. no more fun watching tv or reading xiao ao jiang hu.

lol. and much more mugging.

ok. so the scare for today's history test was fake.

and today was rather slack. started off with PE, before english lessons in which we were given rubrics and stuff, before chinese lesson which was quite fun lol and den history lesson which was revision. chem lesson was interesting before SS was used up for discussion of SS doc.

HMM. lol. so nothing much done.

but since i have quite some work undone (not really homework), i shall need to do them.
1. Mug integration.
2. Prepare for RIGE concert.
3. Start collecting $20 from everyone from tml onwards.

yeah. and start mugging like mad.

reason:
1st week: 4 days of school
2nd week: 5
3rd week: 3
4th week: 0
5th week: 1

total = 13/25 days of school

and then... comes the ccts. i really must make full use of this time to start mugging. starting with integration today. so bye! (:

random events.

ok. so i've not been posting for some time.

not sure why though. not like i've been too busy. maybe too busy watching tv or sleeping.

Errrr... anyway, a few major stuff happened these few days.

Firstly, Father's Day. ok nothing much luh. we just bought him the Euro 2008 channel (which is a little late) and treated him to dinner (which i didn't pay for cuz i no money) haha. erm but quite fun i guess.

Then, CO prac was quite fun too. haha. i'm beginning to gain confidence in glock playing or whatever. maybe that piece is simple but whatever i still managed to sight read on the spot and read my book at the same time. quite pro. (:

ok. then there was this performance at a Church for the elderlies (not that i'm one). haha. so just went there with Dad and Sam and lol. there was lots of performances. rather hilarious. but nvm. there was a fashion show and chinese opera stuff. lol. ok. and i was supposed to perform at the end. so this happened...

the last event before my performance was some song singing in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the si chuan earthquake...

so we were halfway through the song...

suddenly, the emcee came along and said "Hey Patrick! 你在哪里啊?Come perform" lol ok. i was sort of taken aback cuz i thought i no need to perform liao. performance supposed to end at 930 it was 10 already.

OK. so i went up there performed my piece. the piano wasn't really a good one but that's not the main point.

The emcee looks at the clock halfway through my performance, sees that it's 10 already and everyone has to go, and says something to the effect of "let's go!" lol. ok. so i suddenly ended my performance in the middle of nowhere.

but nvm i guess. as Dad says, it's all for the elderlies not like it's for myself.

erm ok so that's that.

Then, today went for interview with this guy from ISE travels and Rotary Club. omg. quite a pro guy. he actually spent a year in United States in a farm studying when he was 17! omg. and errrr yeah. rotary club is beginning to sound like some really big and errr important club cuz i've heard so much about it. I'm glad i'm in interact even though i joint only last year. at least i can say im an interactor... the interview went rather well with me and jun sheng asking the bulk (in fact all) the questions and kenneth holding the camcorder.

errrr ok. such a useless post.

hmm. i've learnt how to play summer! though i'm still not very good at it...

sigh. how i wish school will never reopen.

Patrick

Thursday, June 12, 2008

yeah.

as much as i want to show some joe hisaishi vids which i found rather interesting, i shall show some BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS video cuz it just happens im listening to it.

at least it explains why my title is RANDOM.

hmm ok.

so the past few days were rather slack. haha. only one day was interesting. that was... tuesday! (:

haha. ok so we were supposed to do SS documentary.

went to Plaza Singapura and met kenneth there to discuss documentary. haha. ok so we more or less finished planning, until Shu Jian came.

lol. this is hilarious.

firstly, shu jian says ACTION FIRST, THINK LATER.

den after first video, "hey let's discuss first ah..."

haha. ok. quite hilarious luh. there are still many other stuff but can't say luh haha cuz involving the public.

OH! wait there's this one too.

Shu Jian: HEY, when i came there was this CIP that people were doing involving cycling.
Kenneth: errr ok. so how is it related?
Shu Jian: hey. go cycle can get free shirt leh.
Kenneth: HAH! don't xiao luh. waste time.
Shu Jian: aiyah just go there and ask for interview lah!

so we go there and first thing we know, we're cycling... LOL!

ok at least we got ourselves a free shirt after cycling for 10km.

HMM... yeah. so that was quite fun. i guess this is all for this post bah. bye!

Qiuping!

And the competition ends...

it's been 4 years, 4 times.

Secondary 1:
Got a 3rd for junior with Hong Bo and Keng Yong. Not bad considering we were all sec 1s. Senior grabbed a 2nd position.

Secondary 2:
2nd for junior with hong bo, me and ernest. 3rd for yi heng, alan and shi hao if im not wrong.

anyway, i just read through my reflection of qiuping in sec 2... here is part of it (still quite long though. haha. used to like to use dots)

The biggest takeaway... Determination and persistence... This was shown by me in the Goh Bin match when I knew I had to persist to be able to win him... And I could tell that he didn’t persist from his face as he didn’t really think before moving... He did try thinking but I could tell he didn’t really cared to count... I thought that match... I won him not by my skills, but by my determination to win... and that is what I have taken away from this Qiuping... Winning in Weiqi is not all about skills... It’s about the determination and patience to sit down and think... This is what I really think the sec1s should learn... I know that for the last 4 matches, I was always the last to finish... I know my brain was about to explode... But, I persisted... I knew, if i thought more, I would win somehow... Like in Ernest’s match... I knew it was going to be hard to beat him... But after his 1 wrong move... I took the opportunity, got as much land as I could... and won... Like in goh Bin’s match, I knew I had more determination and persistence than him... I knew I could win... I was thinking for 10 min and he was staring at other ppl’s matches... I knew that I could beat him through determination even if my skills were not as gd as him... and yes I did... the biggest takeaway from Qiuping... determination, persistence, patience, and the willingness to sit down and think of your every move... That’s what I’ve taken away and I hope the Sec 1s will also learn this... This after seeing them playing at such quick speeds during training sessions... It’s not about the no. of matches you play which make you better in weiqi, its the amount of time you take to think about it... thinking about the possible moves, the possible attacks, the possible defences, the biggest place on the board... Even guan zi... Its about the willingness to sit down and calculate the value of each one of them, whether you will get a xian shou from it, whether your opponent will get a xian shou from it... Its about that... The skills I think we already have enough... Now is the time to start sitting down and thinking about your every move... I hope the Sec 1s will really learn this... Because it was with this that I won Ernest and Goh Bin... Even though I have to admit my Weiqi skills are definitely not as gd as them both... Not trying to say that Goh Bin and Ernest do not have persistence and determination... I think that Ernest definitely has both... Even more than me... I’m also not trying to say that I have a lot of persistence and determination... I’m just trying to suggest that now that we know we have enough skills, its time we sit down and think of every move we play, and not just get it over and done with like what I sometimes do during Weiqi training... Just anyhow play and see what happens... Because I dont think that that’s what Weiqi is about... Weiqi is about the thinking process... Thinking about each and every move you play... whether there is a better move... which move is more important or carries a highr value etc... Its this which makes up the beauty of Weiqi... I suggest that from now on, we play Weiqi not with a limited amount of time, but with a minimal amount of time to think of every move... Though this may not seem logical, I surely think its the way to go...

ok. u didn't have to read that. but the thing about time is true. i used it to my fullest this time too this time! (:

ok anyway...

secondary 3:
first double silver for RI in this competition. i didn't do well individually though...

This is bad. Won only 4/7 games. ahh... First time in history I have not won 5 or more. at least in secondary school. The onli other time i won only 4 was when i was P3 and P5 i think. 2 times b4 this and repeated this year again. And what's more, out of the 4 games i won, onli 1 (against Ernest) was a big challenge or at least a close game, the other 3 I won were rather expected cuz my the opponent was much less strong. that technically makes it onli 1 win out of 4 instead of the normal 2 wins out of 4 or sometimes even 3. sigh.

And to add to that, 2 of them that I lost were rather close, especially the third game. and the last game, I was leading and I threw my lead away in a manner too easy for my opponent. haix. The last game should have been a comfortable victory. I thought I made a good start to the game. actly i did, but my mid game was crap so ya.

ok that was another part of a reflection i did in sec 3.

hmm. so on to the main point. SECONDARY 4!

hmm so it started yesterday. let's go match by match.

1st match: against some pei cai sec guy
hmm. usually the 1st opponent is quite unpredicatable so i was quite happy not to get a hci guy on the 1st round. however, after a few moves, could see that this guy was quite good as well. so anyway, the match was rather even until i was losing by a little. panicked a bit and attacked! his turn to panic and his whole jiao died. was winning from den on so that wasn't much of a problem. still, a small scare for me...

2nd match: HCI GUY!
lol ok. mm this guy from qi hui whom i've played against. i guess his standard was a little lower than me and im guessing that's why he kept using pian zhao. and guess what! I FELL FOR IT! omg. so i was losing like mad at the start. hong bo finished his game fast and came over to look. one look, shake head, walks away. LOL! it was really that bad. but i persevered like xiao. just made sure that i moved everything correctly. den, there was a point when he ate me a da tou gui in which case i confirm lose, luckily, i unknowingly ate a da tou gui too! LOL! i didn't even know. so a datougui eats a datougui. ok funny. anyway, persevered to the end, used up much time, thought i was losing... until... count... WHITE 178! i went YES like immediately. though his standard was lower than mine it was very satisfying to beat him. the fact that i was losing like crazy from the start showed it all. I was soooo happy and everyone who saw the match at the start and saw it later were all quite shocked. haha. the sec 2 reflection on perseverence came in handy! (:

3rd match: Woodsbroth sec guy.
ok. nothing to say. he's just pro. evidence? he beats feng cheng cheng. i didn't know he was so pro at the start but after the start i knew i was trailing and from then on there was no looking back. one of the few times that i actually tou zi.

so that was sat...

SUNDAY!

4th match: mm. not sure who.
errr one pointer whose point came from a lun kong. nothing much to say. but i shouldn't have clear boarded her luh. quite bad haha. but she just kept moving so i had no choice. haix.

5th match: HCI guy again!
another guy from qi hui, another guy whose standard is a little lower than mine. but wth. at first i thought i played quite well, den suddenly i started to lose it and from then on, i was losing like mad again. once again hb comes along, takes one look, says "Shit, patrick lose liao", walks away. i was panicking like xiao. time wasn't on my side either. every move i had to think for at least a min or so before i moved cuz i was in deep shit. in the end, pulled through but i was still losing very badly. and my time showed 4 mins left. CRAP. lol. although i was losing both on board and on time, i just kept playing. played very fast and surprisingly my opponent did too. he had soooo much time! omg... haha. ok reminds me of the match against the other guy whom i was losing all the way on board and on time. he moved so fast even though he had so much time (think he wanted to clock me) but in the end didn't realize i da chi him and i won... ><) this was the case here again. a corner which should have had no problem living at all suddenly just died lol. so i once again fan pan from a match which everyone thought i was losing to one which i won by a lot. YES! (:

6th match: against yu xiang of HCI
ok. pro guy. nothing much to say. lost on time but not like i was winning. quite happy that i got a 159 for white in the end though. it's still a thrashing and i think he gave me chance but still... haha. and my guan zi anyhow play so could have been like i guess 169? LOL. anyhow play cuz i was clocked already...

7th match: wu di of HCI
omg. another HCI. i was hoping i didn't face a HCI on the last round. well, at least it's not one of the pro-er ones. i was winning by a little all the way until i suddenly killed his piece (without realizing actually lol) and won by a lot. he white 155 i think so that's quite a big thrashing. YAY! (:

ok. so in the end, here are the results.

JUNIOR:
ling tian: individual 8th
ling tian, zexi, xuewen: team 2nd

OPEN:
CHING HAO (sec 1!!!): individual 5th
Me: individual 7th
HB: individual 8th
Ching Hao, Me, HB: team 2nd

LOL! not bad seh... haha.

so double silver for the 2nd year in a row. at least the trend didn't have to stop in the year that i am vice chair.

feel so happy for everyone esp ching hao. omg. sec 1 gets 5th in open division. ownage. even shi hao only got 3rd i think when he was sec 4.

hmm so looking back, what did i learn?

well, once again perseverence. i could easily have tou zi for the two HCI games and i bet 9 out of 10 people would do that. but it just happened that i just played along and somehow i managed to turn the match around to my favour. (: a lot of people always say that i use a lot of time in a match and my match is usually one of the longest around. but im proud of that. in fact, i think it's because of this that i have won what i've won. i can think of sooo many matches that i was losing like mad but caught up in the end.

hmm. got to know a lot more friends as well. ok all from RI haha. but yeah. and got to tell my jokes again. i think jokers are funny just like minjian and jon chow haha... but yeah. i've got quite a long list of jokes now. YAY! (: started collecting them around march this year. i think i make a rather nice senior. (:

oh and one must be daring enough to stand up for what is rightfully his. haha. sounds like some national day message stuff. but it's true. we were supposed to have 3 people in senior in RI until we realize that one of them put his school wrongly and his school was actually Chua Chu Kang Sec. >< so we only had 2 in open which wouldn't be enough to form a team. the time for changing over from junior to open was already over but we just went over to tell them what happened and with my brilliant persuasion skills, i managed to persuade them to let us change. haha. so ego right? ok no luh i mean we didn't know that guy's from chua chu kang sec so it isn't really our fault bah... mm.

so i guess that's all. had much fun playing weiqi and a bit of cards haha. quite happy that i faced 4 HCI people and won 3. feels like some achievement. yay. and the 2 people i lost to are 2nd and 3rd so i guess i've done my best.

RIweiqi isn't really a big CCA in RI unlike in hwa chong and we even have difficulties getting enough players due to differing commitments. but we always do our best whenever we are playing and i guess that's what matters most. i guess it's going to be my last weiqi comp im playing for RI or maybe my 2nd last. just want to wish my juniors luck in the future. you all didn't let me down today and in fact, i was quite surprised by how you all performed! (: dont let RIweiqi down when you all become seniors and make sure you are as nice as me! haha. ok nvm. maybe not. but yeah. As much as we are not a big CCA, it's 2 years running that we've gotten a double silver. as hb pointed out and i agree, a silver in weiqi is a gold as long as you're not HCI. not very good for goal setting but i guess it would be long before we can get close to HCI. the pesta sukan one was the closest but we missed it by a point. a seed actually. but as long as we continuing doing our best, i'm happy.

Qiuping's over. next year will be lanke. there will be many more pros there and it won't be as easy as qiuping. i'll just train and hope for the best! (:

To Hongbo, Xuewen, John, Ching Hao, Ling Tian, Zexi: Good job!
