wah. sian man... Tomorrow got bio test and eng test and I think receiving back math paper if I'm not wrong... AHH!!! I can't take it. School life seems to be slowing down. My steam seems to be running out too. Used to much at the start? Lol. Anyway, here is the plan

CHIONG BIO NOW!
chiong eng on the bus and in school

Hope my plan works lol. Do you even call it a plan? haha. Anyway, I just hope that the bio test won't be so difficult and that the eng compo will have something that i have prepared too...

Piano tomorrow. haha.

k. bye.

Math CCT

math cct was deadly. OMG. The paper was 30 marks and I answered only 13 marks worth of questions. my god... FAIL!! wahhh... nooo... my first time failing a math test. I think I'll only get 10/30 la... damn it man... AHH!!! Jun Sheng did around 15-16 marks (I think), Xiong Wei 24, Ivan 21, Barry 20... LOL. But I think we also made quite some careless mistake. Like Ivan already knows he has 3 marks minused and Huiyao knows he has 2 qns wrong. LOL. I think my answers are correct (cuz i checked during the last 2 mins) but I have not much working to show, especially for the coordinate geom qn... WAH!!! NOO!!! haix... Sian... I'm so demoralised... The first time I don't get above 90 for a math common test (from pri schl till now), I flunked it. AHHHHH!!! I'm so dead man...

Well, math test aside, chi test was quite ok la.. But the zong he tian kong I was rather random... So i'm not sure. The marks could sway to both extremes... haha.

Bio test next. And english essay too. Today, I shall do Eng essay and chapter 5 + pedigree + punnett square... Tomorrow do the rest + revision. Hopefully I won't flunk this test... haha...

k. that's all for now. still rather demoralised. I think I shall go watch some tv to cheer myself up b4 i begin on a "new" life after failing math. haha. okok. That's all. BYE!

The Storm

Another vid. This is called the storm. haha. damn nice.

Love is good

And this is the great one! haha. this piece is brilliant. A composition from my bro. Look out for the lyrics too! hahaha. Wonderful. I wonder when I will be able to compose like him. sigh. haha. I guess it's good enough to be able to have a bro with such great talents in music. haha. and I'm jamming with him at esplanade library on (forgot date). lol. I'm only helping out for 2 songs though. Do come support him! haha. It's great. Yeah! ENJOY!

Patrick

Love at first sight

Lol. and this is my first music piece with Mike! haha. It's his composition. So, yar. Think it's ok bah. I did screw up a bit, but i guess it's all right given that I only just learnt the bongo a few days ago by myself (and with a bit of help from my 2 bros who are also amateurs haha). a bit off beat too but for a first take, I would consider quite ok. haha. Enjoy!

Patrick

The jing dian one

Lol. yes. and this is the jing dian one. Brilliance! I bet this dude will become the next prime minister of Singapore. Yeah! haha. AND, in case you don't know, it's ME! lol. laugh all you want lah. I was primary 6 den and was trying out the interview for DSA to RI. Looking back, I would say I'm lucky not to need an interview to get in via DSA. hahaha. I only gave the test and accepted me. If i had to be interviewed then, I can bet 100 bucks that they won't accept me even if i get an aggregate score of 300 for my PSLE. haha. Push up your specs Patrick! haha. Nevermind. Laugh all you want. I'm still cute! haha. enjoy!

CNY hols

hey! It's been around a week since I last posted so I thought I would start posting again!

Hm. A quick check of my blog gives me knowledge that I last posted on Thursday. Great. That leaves me 4 really exciting days and 1 very boring day (today) to talk about.

Friday:
RICO percussion performance! Woke up at 545am (early by 30 min) today to get myself a quick bath and off I went in my RJ daji T-shirt and jeans. Reached school at 645, just in time for a quick last-minute rehearsal. Everyone was present (surprise surprise) and we were all ready to show our best. We made a last minute decision to NOT throw sticks which I thought made it rather boring but at the same time made the screw-up chance of me lowered by at least 90%. So, 1 hr 30 min passed unexpectedly, and before we knew it, it was time for PERFORMANCE! YAY. I was standing at the 2nd row left side (there were 3 rows. 1st row 1 person soloist. 2nd row 2 person. 3rd row 3 persons). Thomas was the soloist so he was at the front. Tze Ern and me were playing dagu for both songs so we were on 2nd row and Cui Cheng, Lexus and Zhao Jie were playing dagu for 1st song and random small instruments for the 2nd song so they stood on the last row. It so happened that the front 3 all wore orange while the back 3, red. Haha. Coincidence? Hmm... Well, so started the performance which I thought was great. No major screw-ups by anyone. Quite loud with the help of microphones and the applause even louder. All in all, I would rate the performance a 8 out of 10. 1 mark gone for not being able to send Shu Jian and Chu Ming up and the other for not being able to throw sticks and the minor screw-ups. So ended the performance and we started moving things back to RJCO room. YAY fun! haha. Joshua and me raced with the dagus (with some drum stands on top) and of course... I lost... tragically. haha. UNFAIR! Joshua had the better drum! lol. Well, it was a great team-building activity (lol) and I felt we bonded while moving the instruments back. Helping each other etc. (a bit like OBS hey?) haha. AND, most importantly, our GREAT performance earned ourselves a treat to Swensens! haha. WOW. Well, ok so that was that. After which, I went back to MSHS to visit the teachers. Only Ms. Ang and Zhou lao shi are still in MSHS. haha. Ms. Ang (once again) forgot my name but (once again) remembered that I was in the '04 batch and was damn pro in math and science but damn lousy in English. haha. Zhou lao shi remembered my ting in the (song ting). haha. Well, 50% is better than nothing. haha. Met up with some HCI friends such as DEWEI! haha. and saw Max too but didn't have much time to talk to him cuz he was released only at 1 (we were released at 10)... haha. ok. So, after that, I went off to City Hall to meet up with Michael, Tammy (his gf) AND NICHOLAS. haha. Apparently, Nicholas got 98 for his math test. WOW. he actually beat me! =.= haha. or i think he did. haha. Well, I bought a shirt and a pants for myself in the REALLY crowded Bugis area. My my. We were walking at a pace of 10m/min... ahhh... Why must so many people come to Bugis! It's overcrowding = lack of space, oxygen.................. Oops. I also went to Bugis. Lol. haha. I realise a lot of secondary school and JC people go there. haha. ok. think that's all. after that just went to J8 to eat dinner with family before HOME!

Saturday:
Nothing much. Did math in the morning and afternoon on Quadratic Functions. sian... haha. Then slack till dinner where we ate real nice food! haha. k. this is boring. next day.

Sunday:
Ah. boringness again. Went to bai nian at my mom's friend's place where we ate real nice food again. haha. After which went home and did some SS project and stuff. NOOO. Boringness again. Next day!

Monday:
Morning and afternoon was boringness as I did SS and some work... haha. the fun began at around 5 when people started coming to our house for CULTURAL NITE '07!!!! haha. FUN@! yayy... Played PS2, drums, piano, listen to performances and lots and lots of stuff. haha. so fun! and the food was nice again! WOW! haha. k. if i elaborate, this post will become ultra long. So i guess i won't... But... PICTURES!

haha. FOOD! nice... Yummy!

Group Photo! Me and Sam in front. Obviously, the cooler one is on the left.

Family photo! Tallest one in the center. Yeah!

haha. Boy's photo! argh. I'm the youngest in the lot...

lol. Laughter...

k actually a lot more photos but these are the significant ones to me. haha. So, yar.

Tuesday: = today
One word. Boring

Conclusion: 1 1/2 interesting days + 3 1/2 boring days made up my CNY hols.

Lol. k think that's about it. Shall add some interesting videos Michael showed me later in the day...

Patrick

Bio chapter 4 by today.
Chem by today.
Hmwk by today.

k that's all. bye!

school

hi. Haven't blogged for 2-3 days so I shall blog today! haha. Have to make it fast though, I wanna grab some much-needed sleep. So here it goes...

Tuesday:
Nothing much except lessons, math talk and 1st cny rehearsal in hall. Only the math talk was special. It was a talk by the professor who wrote the book, "pi, e and other interesting numbers". It was a rather inspiring talk mostly about number sequences. One example would be

1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + 1/5 + 1/6 + 1/7 + 1/8 + ... tends to infinity and the prove of it is simple.
the sum is definitely larger than 1/2 + (1/4 + 1/4) + (1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) + ... and since 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 + ... tends to infinity, larger than infinity is still infinity. This is one of the easier ones. Then we did Geometric Progression which we just happened to learn last friday during math RA. Oh i forgot to mention, this is supposed to be an RJ talk and RI people can come on voluntary basis. So for sec 3, only me and Zhiyi went. haha. we learnt loads. I could have owned in geometric progression (happens even RJ people haven't learnt it) but I decided not to, owing to the fact that I was prominent enough with my yellow jacket already. (HAHA) Well, anyway, it was rather nice and if there had been more time, we would have done much more interesting things

rehearsal was screwed. that's all i can say.

Wednesday:
Nothing much again. Just school and rehearsal. Boringness...

Thursday:
NOTHING again. school only. philo test was ok but eng comprehension seemed easy but difficult too. Maybe i wasn't concentrating during the test. sigh. nvm. what's done is done. k. that's all.

And tomorrow got CNY performance. Wonder whether I will throw sticks. haha. And shall bring large sticks so maybe i'll use those. Anyway, happy belated valentine's day. total defence day and an early happy chinese new year. haha. 3 consecutive occasions. WOW. lol. i think today is international cancer day too. Wanted to wear the yellow badge but didn't get it so yar. not my fault. =D

k gotta slp. Bye!

Planning

hey!
Today was rather bad. I'm so going to fail my math TA. damn. ah... Math RA is proving to be so hard... especially cuz of the time. I knew how to do all the questions but all the questions were so long and required so much working and they were given so little marks. >< ahh... at least i don't sound as bad as Lumpy who seems to have only gotten 1 mark for his TA according to his analysis. I think my highest I can get is 7. and upon 10 that's bad... sigh sigh sigh... But nvm, I shall jian chi xia qu! Perseverance! I shall not quit like I did for jap. haha. Anyway, today also marked SYF rehearsal at SCH. Skipped the last 2 lessons of school though that's nothing to be proud for. Got to copy notes when I get to school tomorrow. SYF rehearsal went ok I guess. We are at around bronze-silver standard now which is BAD. haha. Thomas was suggesting changing the name of COP (certificate of participation) to CLoL (Certificate of Laughing out Loud). like LOL, u flail. haha. Well, I think I've got to work on my timpani rolling skills if I'm going to be able to play wind's crescenti. haha. I hate rolling, especially on the timpani. I only like rhythm. Sigh. haha. nevermind then. Anyway, Thomas, Yin Kwan and me were crapping dumb jokes ON STAGE. I mean it ON STAGE. haha. We were like laughing all the way as we were practicing. Not something to be proud of once again but it was really funny. We were just too bored especially since we couldn't sit down. haha. We craped dumb jokes and laughed at all the screw-ups of ours or other sections. haha. and we were counting the number of people in our orchestra as compared to the orchestra in the audience seats (they were next to rehearse). My my... We had around 65 and they had 100+. AND for our 65, there are around 10 or more who hun4 so that doesn't really help. Thomas said we should make the orchestra only have 40 people. Better to have a small orchestra playing together than a large one playing like crap. Point taken. haha. Anyway, I was once again wearing my jacket =D. haha. Look so cool! It has become a sort of a trademark. No more can't find Patrick cuz he's too short cuz u will obviously notice his yellow and blue jacket! haha. oh, and Yin Kwan screwed up big time for one of his mu yu notes. HAHA. Damn funny... And he pat-ed my shoulder after that major screw up. haha. shi bai shi bai. Lol. N Tze Ern screwed up a bit too but other than that not much lah. I realise I'm becoming a pro in triangle. I make myself look so cool playing the triangle. OH YES. one of the lame jokes I crapped up: I think I'm definitely good enough to play the triangle for SCO given my experience and full-time training of this prestigious instrument. LOL. lameness to the ultimate level. But for timp, I'm not so sure. Still got to train. If cannot I'll just take Thomas' xylo part and he take timp. Xylo is actually harder but less ji ben gong required so yar... oh and Yin Kwan did realise that we 3 were not really concentrating on the practice and suggested: Do you think we should up our seriousness level? Maybe we could go from 0 to 1. LOL. my god... lameness again. hahaha. and the sheng section is screwing up big time. sigh... the instrument is hard to play, but not that bad rite? They always screw up at the exact same spot and always go down by an octave before going back to the correct note. sigh. haha.

Oh and this is a riddle from Cui Cheng:
Three men go to a hotel. The hotel rent is $30 so each man pays $10. However, the hotel manager later realizes that the rent is only $25 so he returns $5 to the 3 men. The 3 men give $2 back to the hotel manager because of his honesty. Thus, each man paid $(10-1) = $9 each. The hotel manager only has $2. 9x3+2 = 29. WHERE DID THE $1 FROM THE ORIGINAL $30 FLY AWAY TO?

haha. rather interesting question. I was stuck too until Joshua managed to correct my way of thinking. haha. see whether you all know the answer to this question.

k think that's all for now. Wanen is gonna kill me next sat. haha. I better be careful. Valentine's Day and CNY is coming. Happy celebrating these 2 joyous occasions! haha. I wanna get ferrero rocher!!

k bye den.

Patrick

Week 9 is killer week so I have to do...
English blog + 2 posts, SS project and study for the 4 tests on week 9 during CNY period. sigh. What a holiday. haha.

Oh crap. Haven't done Chem SPA. sian... Tomorrow then do bah. Now very tired and still got to update a bit of chem notes. k den. Bye.

Whatever...

Woah.
I'm suddenly so relaxed after the end of bio quiz. I did my best and I think I should be able to score relatively well. It's not really often I get to do well in biology. haha. Anyway, I shall talk about Saturday, Sunday and maybe, if I have time, a bit about school.

Saturday began with CO practice. Once again, we were practicing zong he lian xi and qing wang dian bing (combining to be named gu yue qing xin nian). The same stuff. So nothing much to talk about there. Just hope we can do well for CNY. We really have put in much effort for this. Next, I went home, changed and went out with my brothers for the first time in 1-2 years and less than 10th time in 4 years. Wow. It was great to be back with Michael (eldest bro) and Sam (elder bro) again. We set off for bras basah to buy some drums. =D YAY. haha. And before that, I must talk about the bus journey which totally rocked. The bus was NEW. like NEW. totally different. It looked more like a bar than a bus. The design was great. I loved it totally. It was totally different and a great feeling to be inside it. Well, so that was that. Oh, and I forgot to mention about our attire. Michael wore some casual clothes, Sam formal clothes (WITH WHITE BLAZER) and me formal clothes (WITH BLACK BLAZER). hahaha. YAY. blazers rock. haha. Well, so we went off to buy some indian drums called bongos. haha. Michael wanted it. We bought a $95 one and proceeded to bugis street. Bugis street was suffering from overcrowding. Symptoms = lack of oxygen, space etc. haha. Sian... Wanted to buy shoes but didn't find any there so we went back to Bras Basah to buy them. LOL. Den, we went to City Hall to see see. haha. Erm, didn't buy anything though. I wanted to buy pants but didn't cuz their smallest size was too big for me. =((( haha. Well, that was it and I went for jiang. Jiang was the normal stuff with me, Mark and Gilbert crapping around. haha. Den Yunhui and "oh I forgot her name again" did some small discussion together and that was about the end of it. Went off to MRT with Wanen and Han Sheng (LOL). haha. Wanen was her normal self. haha. you will know what I mean when you see her. Shall not say anything here though in case she strangles me this sat. haha. Hmm... yar. But I went home with my brothers instead of them cuz they were waiting for me to end tuition. So that ended Saturday.

Sunday was nothing much except concert. Studied a bit in the morning and afternoon b4 setting off at 4 for VSCO concert. haha. OMG. I actually alighted at the wrong station. I alighted at City Hall instead of Raffles Place so I had to go up the escalator to change train to go to Tanjong Pagar. Then, OMG again. I was studying on the train (on SS society notes) and I somehow thought I was going from Raffles Place to Tanjong Pagar which is only 1 stop. So I alighted after one stop, only to find myself in Raffles Place. OMGG. WALAO. PATRICK!!! HOW COULD YOU!!! haha. Proves that studying makes you crazy. haha. k. anyway, I set off to SCH and found Dewei already waiting for me there. oh WAIT. I forgot to elaborate on my attire again (although most of you who regularly read my blog would already be able to predict it) BLACK BLAZER (alliteration)! haha. It was free sitting so we sat rather back of the concert hall. We were talking talking talking when I SUDDENLY realised that WENYUN and KWEKY were sitting on our row, four seats away from me. I thought "omg, what are they doing here". Didn't go greet them though cuz I wasn't sure whether I recognised them wrongly and I was deeply engrossed in a conversation with my primary school friend, Dewei. haha. We talked damn lots about HCI, RI, VS, MSHS and stuff... haha. Den the concert started. The emcees were pathetic. And there isn't use of hyperbole in there. This was especially the case for the one speaking in Chinese. He spoke horrible Chinese. haha. AND they couldn't pronounce the conductor's name properly! His name was Mr. Chiang and he kept pronouncing it as Mr. Chang. Maybe it was because the conductor was fed up with the emcees, he dropped his baton while conducting a song! LOL. omg. it was humourous. hahahaha. I would rate the concert as average except for First Love and jun ma which were nice. I love Max's xylo solo. Damn nice. Full of admiration. haha. Anyway, wanted to find Max after concert but couldn't so went back in the end without being able to speak to him. sigh. so sad. haha. so that was that.

k now a bit about school. School has been rather interesting. The lessons are much more effective than in lower sec. Math is going at a much more accelerated pace and we are learning much more chimer stuff. haha. YAY. Math rocks man. Especially the proving part. omg. haha. proving rocks to the core. And we are learning much more formulas and stuff as compared to the RP students. We are going faster too (even when we are teaching more things). We are supposed to do a few more topics than RP by the time we reach sec 4. Some of these include polar coordinates etc. haha. Anyway, it's been great in math RA and I am really glad that I managed to get a place in it. Also, for the sciences, we are going much faster, and learning much more stuff especially for biology. haha. The chim stuff man. Bio is indeed hard so I think I must work harder on it to get my 4.0. Sigh. Physics has been going like waves for me, ups and downs. Luckily for me, the graded quiz was an up so till now I'm doing relatively well. For chem, the test was also an up for me and I understand it fully so that's great. I think I've been coping well so far. SS has been going quite slow though but maybe that's because it's our first time touching on that subject. History is ok i guess. Not too fast not too slow. Maybe a bit on the slower side but I don't mind lah. It's still quite ok. Hmm. Yar. Think that's about all. Class meeting has been good and the first collection of funds has been good too. Friends have been great and I'm getting along fine. Results ok, CCA ok, CEC ok, friends ok. So, it has been great at school especially spending recesses and lunch with people like Jinghui, Keng Chee, Jun Sheng, Jerald, Hui Yao, Lumpy, Mark, Ben Yong, Eugene, Benjamin, Erdong, Tony etc. haha. They have all been very nice. k. that's all for now den. Hope u guys have a good weekend ahead. CNY is coming. Concert is coming. Hope it goes well. Sec 3 seems to be developing into a great year and I must work hard to make this true. Bye.

Tired

wah. damn. Today was supposed to be a rather slack day. Turned out that CO was not slack at all. CNY concert is approaching and we are now training 4 times a week. argh. damn. Especially when we don't get to play in the air-conditioned RJCO room, cuz the RJ people are using it. My my. Not only was not being able to wear my jacket the only complain, the blazing sun made me develop a terrible headache which made me unable to concentrate. RARH. haha. sian. then people kept running across us (like those track and field people) or walking (RJCO people who keep coming out and going into CO room for some reason which I do not know of. It was kind of distracting also. haha. Turns out that RJCO percussion has recruited a ALL-GIRLS J1 students, which has made BL rather happy, in fact to the extent of him giving extra practice sections and actually bothering to go thru the orange book. haha. Well, maybe it's that he's very kind or something, but I think the "ALL-GIRLS" play a big part too. haha. Well, I'm not sure cuz this is second-hand info from Tze Ern. According to him, you can know he's excited just by looking at his face. k random. haha. And according to another second-hand source, this time from Shu Jian, RJCO only consists of around 3 male members which I seriously doubt cause I can immediately think of a few from RICO who are now in RJCO and the number is definitely more than 3. Let's see, there's Boyi, Jason, Bing Liang, Hwee Leong, Ming Quan... that's 5 already. maybe shu jian can't count more than 3. hahaha. jkjk. or maybe they pon prac, or were practicing elsewhere. haha. in any case, it is a well-known fact that RJCO is dominated by females. haha. Hmm... what else should I say... I think I shall go sleep la. damn tired. tomorrow got bio test also. sigh. and SS. sighsighsigh. Hm. Shall blog on VSCO concert and last saturday's events in the near future. For now, it's goodbye and good night.

Patrick (Sorry about the paragraphing, or rather lack of paragraphing, cuz I can't be bothered to press "enter". Thanks for your kind understanding.) lol. so formal. k random. bye!

Motivated!

Omgg. I suddenly feel so very motivated to study. haha. Not sure why, just motivated. Studying rocks. Mugging rocks. haha.

Anyway, I got back 2 of my tests recently, namely my math TA and physics quiz. I scored relatively high marks. Math TA was 10.5/15 which is my lowest TA score to date but given the standard of the RA TA questions, I would rate it as a job well done especially since it's the first TA. Only thing I can complain about is missing a once in a lifetime opportunity of beating Ivan in math. He scored 11. AHHH!!! haha. I'm still happy though. And for the physics quiz, I scored 9/10 which is quite good given that I though I had failed the quiz. haha. Luckily they only minus one mark for not putting standard form and accepted time not corrected to 1 decimal place. haha. YAY. So i only lost to Barry (in my class) for the quiz and drew with Lumpy. I'm quite happy with that result. haha.

So... upcoming things include:
1. Bio test
2. SS assignment
3. Math TA 2
4. Math talk
5. Math afternoon lesson
6. Physics afternoon lesson

WOW. I love studying now. Math RA totally rocks man. I love all those crazy-looking problems. haha. especially, the proving stuff and the academy problems and questions. WOW. Math suddenly rocks.

Chem suddenly rocks too. I have suddenly developed a passion for chem. I've been reading the textbook and the things inside are rather interesting. haha. So, CHEM ROCKS.

Physics suddenly rocks too. After that scrappy quiz (or maybe not so scrappy) comes the topic of light which is INTERESTING. haha. all those funny questions on light. Only regret I have is the inability to be in physics RA. nvm that now. Shall make up for it by buying the physics RA textbook. haha. PHYSICS ROCKS.

Chinese suddenly rocks too. I have always found a burning passion to learn chinese given that I was born in Hong Kong. Chinese is such a beautiful language. The cheng yu-s, guan yong yu-s so on and so forth are so nice! haha. and now we are learning so many things. bi yu, bi ni, ni ren, ni wu, kua zhang, xuan nian, pai bi... WOW. haha. then we also talked about the da ge ming in china which was quite interesting. And we have already done 3 compos so far. Nice progress. Chinese ROCKS!

English suddenly rocks too. English has always been one of my worst subjects and I think will always be. But lessons now are rather interesting especially since we are now doing stuff more systematically unlike in sec 1 and 2. haha. So far, we have done Anecdote and Personal Narrative which I think is rather good progress as well. Hope we would get to expository and argumentative soon enough. =) English ROCKS.

SS suddenly rocks too. The SS notes are so motivational and inspiring that reading it makes me feel so much more knowledgeable. haha. especially the first two society notes. My god. The notes totally rock man. I've even done a summary on EACH of the notes. WOW. ROCK ON SS!

History suddenly rocks too. Mr. Alan Soo is becoming such an interesting teacher. haha. He makes history of science so interesting. haha. I love History man. Especially since class has been rather effective. I copied down one and a half pages worth of notes on one history lesson! WOW. and it was those papers with no lines (i.e. printing paper) so i could squeeze everything. History ROCKS man...

Philo rocks man. The fallacies are so damn cool. Especially the terminology. All those stuff like "hypothesis contrary to fact", "poisoning the well", "post hoc" totally rock man. PHILO ROCKS.

And even BIO rocks. haha. biology is so interesting. haha. all those terminology and concepts. wah... haha. must mug la but it's damn fun to learn all these chim stuff. haha. So, BIOLOGY ROCKS.

K. crapped a lot. Got to study bio quiz, organize math, do physics exercise and do chi wkst today.
Let's see. Anybody who isn't pro and cute (which means Patrick) lol. jkjk. can stop reading from here on. =DDD

Math: Fri (All 4 topics)
Chem: Sat (Atomic Structure)
Chi: Thu (dan yuan 1 + 3 zuo wen)
Hist: Sun (History of Science??)
Bio: Sun (Chapter 5,20,21)
Phy: Sat+Sun (Chapter 1 + Start on Light 1 and Light 2)
SS: Sun if got time (Ethnicity and Race)
Eng: No need

k. Think that's all for now. I'm rather enthu about studying now so must make use of this opportunity to study. haha. bye.

lol.

Hello =)

Haven't been posting much about school these few days so I shall do one today on that particular topic.

Hmm... In the past week or so of school, not much took place, just the normal lessons and stuff. Only HM's assembly was abnormal (in the sense that it doesn't occur normally...). Haha. His speech was rather inspiring. He was talking about Singapore's education system. Basically, he started off by stating that the Singapore education system is a very good one and that he has a rather good basis to make this judgement given his experience in education in places like China, US and the middle-east. Then, he moved on to talk about the secondary schools of Singapore. He said that since 1994 (i think it is 1994... if not somewhere near there...), the normal tech stream was introduced and it became necessary, or in a way, a must to complete at least 10 years of education in Singapore. After which he spoke about the 2 main groups in the secondary schools, the upper 10% and the other 90%. He talked about the other 90% first, stating that all the people in this group had only 1 thing in mind, 1 aspiration and they were the same - to get themselves into a JC, polytechnic or ITE. This was the 1 and only goal that the people in the other 90% had. Then he sidetracked to stating some facts about only 15% (or was it 25, i forgot) of the cohort would be able to go to universities and that for the upper 10%, it was rather of a pre-requisite. Thus, for the upper 10%, our aspirations should not be just to get into a good university or to do well in academics. As the upper 10% who will make up the higher level of the skilled workforce or rather the leaders of this cohort of skilled workforce, it takes much more than academics. It requires much more and these include stuff like leadership, being pioneers and being thinkers (school motto). Therefore, it is critical that schools like RI concentrate not only on the academics but also in such areas. This is the reason why RI comes up with so many leadership showing opportunities such as Overseas learning journeys, House events, CCA leadership etc. And he ended off with a quote from a sec 1 who emailed headmaster his admirations of his PSLs. From what I can remember, the quote was something like this:

"Everyday, I look up to my PSLs in admiration. Amiss the large loads of homework that is required of sec 4 students, they manage to take time out for our sec 1 orientation. They have such great thinkers, leaders and pioneers just like the silent statue that I walk pass everyday as I go to school."

And he ended his speech shortly after. It was a rather inspiring speech and gave me reason to not only work hard on my academics but also to challenge myself and put myself at a higher level. There is no question about academics. RI's academic vigour is definitely sufficient to pitch us at the highest level. There is no question that we will get ourselves into the top universities. But is that all? Is that all we want to achieve? As future leaders of Singapore, as the leaders for the other 90% of the cohort, is it enough to just produce our qualifications and results? I believe that that is a summary of what Headmaster was trying to drive at. And I truly agree with him. It is definitely not enough for us just to be good in our academics. It requires us to get way out of our comfort zone, to serve and to lead, to strive and not to yield. It takes courage to do that. And that is what is required of a true Rafflesian.

Lol. I seem rather formal. haha. But I think it's true lah. haha. so let's work towards becoming true Rafflesians, true Singaporeans, true Carries (oops. ignore. haha.)

k. that's all for now. If I have more time, I shall blog later. Anyway, lunch with Benjamin, Erdong, Jun Sheng, Xiang Peng and Keng Chee was nice. haha. So nice friends.

k bye.
